A trans-woman (think Auntie Mame for the 2020s) takes a shy and closeted aspiring seamstress/drag queen under her wings in this endearing comedy/drama. Following the death of his mother, Egyptian teenager Nabil (Ryan Ali) moves to Toronto to live with his traditionally minded father. There he meets Malibu (Alexandra Billings, “Transparent,” “The Conners”) who is on her own crusade to protect her drag nightclub/queer haven Mandy’s from demolition. The shy Nabil, wanting to learn how to sew like his seamstress mother, finds a drag mother mentor in the exuberant Malibu, who makes all her own dresses. As the boy begins to find his true self, the fight to save the club quickly escalates, pitting Nabil against his architect father and drag queens and queers against the gentrification-minded establishment. A rousingly entertaining and insightful coming out drag tale.

“QUEEN TUT doesn't just provide a powerful narrative of change, acceptance, and growth; it amplifies the voice of a community. The importance behind films like this expands beyond the celluloid walls it inhabits. More than mere entertainment, it's a testament to the formidable influence cinema wields over societal discourse. The film emerges as a celebration of individuality and a call to action for the importance of spotlighting marginalized tales in today’s cinematic landscape…a feast for the eyes and food for the soul.”

“Queen Tut” is about a revolution, but, at its heart, it’s about a boy who must conquer his fears and live his truth…a very straightforward tale about a boy pursuing his dreams of becoming a drag queen. Alexandra Billings has some powerful gravitas. The actor commands every scene she’s in…a simple story told extremely well.”
